Montana Department of Natural Resources & Conservation
A Message from Director Mary Sexton
Welcome to the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation’s American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) Web site.
Since the distribution of ARRA funds was authorized by the Montana Legislature, DNRC staff has been working hard to identify and prioritize a wide range of projects that will meet ARRA guidelines and support our agency mission – to ensure Montana’s land and water resources provide benefits for present and future generations.

DNRC has received more than $60 million in ARRA funding. A total of $52 million will go to four major programs in DNRC’s Conservation and Resource Development Division (CARDD): the State Revolving Fund loan program ($38 million), Montana Regional Water Systems ($8 million), the Renewable Resource Grant and Loan Program ($4.2 million), and the Reclamation and Development Grant Program ($1.8 million).
DNRC’s Forestry Division and Trust Lands Management Division have received a total of $8.7 million in ARRA funds.

In addition to meeting the President’s goal of job creation to stimulate the economy, ARRA projects administered by DNRC will provide important social and environmental benefits for communities across the state. When we improve forest health, reclaim abandoned mines and build up-to-date water treatment systems, we not only protect natural resources – we enhance our quality of life.
DNRC is committed to utilizing ARRA funds to accomplish high-priority work in areas of critical need. To ensure transparency and accountability, we’ll be updating our Web site as new projects are finalized. Visit us again soon, and track our progress as we invest in jobs and stewardship for Montana.
