Department of Public Health & Human Services

American Recovery and Reinvestment Act
(ARRA)

Anna Whiting SorrellWelcome to the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009 website. This legislation directs about $300 million in federal funding to a number of DPHHS programs.

The funding comes at a time when the clients our department serves need it most. Currently, over 88,000 Montanans are receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. In fact, SNAP federal funds have already been allocated and the Montana program is expected to receive an overall total of $57 million over the next four years.

However, SNAP is just one of several department programs that will receive a boost from the federal stimulus money. ARRA funding will help us maintain current Medicaid services, weatherize more homes through our Weatherization Program, increase our ability to stock the shelves at food banks across the state and decrease homelessness.

More information regarding ARRA and DPHHS are located on the DPHHS web site at http://dphhs.mt.gov/recovery.
